Hi again,
On Saturday I played cricket for Te Awamutu against Cambridge. Cambridge batted first and made 90 runs. I was keeping for the first half of the innings. I took two catches, one was relatively easy but the other was a low, left handed diving catch. When I was bowling I bowled three tight overs and on the last ball of my third over I bowled their last batsman out, just flicking the bails off. I opened the batting and made 33 not out, having to retire after being in for about six overs. My 33 runs were made of eight fours and one single. My team won making 91 runs easily with about eight overs remaining.
The school gala,
On Friday my school had a Gala to raise money. Every class had a stand selling something or a game to win prizes like fizzy drinks. My class had a dart game. To win you have to hit a balloon with one of three darts. It was really hard but some people managed to win. I had fun looking after the stall at the begining and trying to get people to give it a go. It was a fun day and I’m sure my school raised loads of money.

Hi again,
Yesterday I played cricket for Te Awamutu against Te Rapa knights. It was an away game for my team. Te Rapa won the toss and put my team into bat first. My team made 118 before getting all out. I opened the batting and made 30 runs before retiring. I then came in at the end at the start of the last over. After blocking the first ball I tried to score some more runs. I ended up nicking the ball onto my wickets. I was out for 30 runs. I was wicket keeping until drinks break and by then Te Rapa had just over 50 runs. While I was keeping I helped run someone out and I didn’t let any byes through. While I was fielding I took a pretty easy catch and in my three overs bowling I bowled someone out. My bowling figures were nine runs against me and one wicket taken. It was an improvement from last week. In the end Te Rapa batted out all their overs and only made 105 runs. I was pleased with my team’s win yesterday and I was pleased with how I played.

Hi again,
On the weekend I played cricket against a team from Tamahere. Tamahere won the toss and chose to bat first. I was wicket keeping until drinks and came on to bowl near the end of the game. My bowling was tight and I only bowled one wide. My bowling figures after my three overs were 0 for 12. While I was keeping I only let one ball go for byes in the second to last over before drinks. Tamahere batted out all their overs and made just over 180 runs. I opened the batting and made 33 runs not out having to retire half way through. My team made 128 runs after batting out all our overs. In the end we lost by about 60 runs but I think we played really well in this game for a team with lots of beginners in it. I really enjoyed the game and I’m looking forward to the game next week.

Hi again,
So far I have played 2 cricket games this season. My team’s first game was against Hamilton Old Boys. My team batted first and made 153 runs with one of our batsmen making 49 before getting caught out while trying to hit over the top. I made 5 runs in this game. I got out when I tried to smack a full toss in the last over. The ball hit the top of my bat and went straight up. It turned out to be an easy catch for the wicket keeper. My team managed to win by 4 runs against Hamilton Old Boys.
My teams second game was against Fairfield. My team made just over 60 runs before getting all out. I ended up making 3 runs in this game after getting bowled. We lost this game with our total chased down in the 20th over. I’ve been enjoying playing cricket so far this season despite only an average of 4.00. I’m looking forward to next week.

Hi again,
These are my goals for term 4.
- To do my best and pass the trumpet exam. To do this I will have to continue to practice regularly.
- To work hard towards becoming a house leader and a good role model next year when I’m a year 8. I can achieve this by showing my good leadership skills in class activities.
- To continue to work hard in all subjects at school and get them finished on time.

Hi again,
Last weekend I was in a five a-side soccer tournament for Pirongia. We had four games in the round robin and depending on the results the teams would either be in the round for the plate or the cup. We won three games and lost one in the round robin but unfortunately lost our fifth game so we were eliminated. In one game I scored a hat trick, we won that game 4 – 3. I scored five goals in total. In the first game my team kicked off first. I passed the ball to Karn and he had a shot at goal. The goalie wasn’t paying much attention. The ball hit the side of a defender’s foot and went in. Unfortunatelythe goal wasn’t counted because the referee wasn’t on the field, but we ended up thrashing our opponents. I really enjoyed playing in the five a-side tournament even though we didn’t win. I’m looking forward to playing in it next year.

Hi again,
Yesterday I played soccer for Pirongia in our last game of the season. It was against the team at the top of the table, The Hamilton Marist Speedsters. In the grading games we bet them 6 – 2 but the last time we played them we lost 7 – 2. We played well in the first half with the score at 1 – 1. The goal against us was lucky for the other team because it slipped through my team’s goalie’s hands. Hamilton scored a good goal with about 15 minutes remaining but with only a few minutes to go, one of my team’s strikers had a good run down the wing and came into the box so he was one on one with the keeper. Everyone watched nervously as the ball went through the goalie’s legs and into the back of the net. The end score was 2 – 2. My team and I were pleased with the result. Since it was the last game of the season there was a prize giving. Everyone receveid a certificate and a chocolate bar but only a few players got a trophy. There was ‘most improved’ or ‘player of the year’. My team had five trophies given out, I got the player of the year award. I’m pleased with how I played this season and I can’t wait until the start of next season.

Hi again,
Yesterday I played soccer for Pirongia. My team was against a Hamilton Christian school. We hadn’t played them before, because of the weather it was canceled last time. In this game we got off to a good start leading 2-0 at half time. I scored one of the goals. In the second half an own goal made it 2-1 so the game was very close. A little while later I scored my second goal of the game to make it 3-1. With a few minutes to go, after a lot of time on attack someone else on my team scored a goal to make the end score 4-1. I was pleased with how I played in that game to score my eighth goal of the season and I’m looking forward to the last game of the season next week.
On both Wednesday and Friday last week I performed my speech in front of my class. The topic is ‘Sportsmen get let off criminal charges lightly.’ Because I got into the class speech finals on Friday I might say my speech again next Wednesday in front of my class and rooms 1 and 2. If I’m one of the best in that group I will perform my speech in front of the whole school. I hope I do well this year with my speech because I won the Eastern Zone Speech competition last year at primary. I will find out on Monday if I will be performing my speech again on Wednesday. I hope I get to.
Bye for now, Gregory.

Hi again,
On the weekend I played soccer for Pirongia against a team from Huntly. My team had played them twice. We won when we played them in the grading games but they had beaten us a few weeks ago. It was an away game for us but the weather was fine. We started badly and at half time my team was losing 4 -0. We improved by alot in the second half but it wasn’t enough. We had lots of chances but we didn’t score from them as much as we could have. In the end the score was 5 – 2. I scored my team’s first goal of the game just tapping the ball into the bottom corner. I played well in this game creating lots of opportunities and scoring my sixth goal of the season. I have scored the third most for my team so far this season and I’m hoping to score more in the last few games of the season. Even though my team lost I’m proud of how I played.
Bye for now, Gregory.
